Our partners offer mountain bikes and E-mountain bikes at favoured prices, so you can even explore our lovely valley from the saddle - you will be surprised!
The passes of the Dolomites have always been the greatest challenge for cyclists and for that reason they offer the most outstanding highlights. It is also well worth touring round with a mountain bike. There are suitable routes for all demands.
- Tour recommendation: Selva di Val Gardena "La Cresta" mountain walk
Route: Selva – Saltria – Rif. Alpe di Siusi Alpine House – La Cresta – Rifugio Sasso Piatto – Rifugio Giogo – Selva
Distance: approx. 24 kilometres and 900 metres of altitude
Journey time: approx. 3 hours
You should be physically fit and adept at mountain walking
The Auf der Schneid mountain path runs for 2,200 m, around five kilometres away from the foot of Sasso Piatto. With grassy slopes and meadows as far as the eye can see, running down into the deep, narrow, largely unpopulated valley of Duron. You will encounter few other walkers along the way, and cyclists need hardly worry about negotiating rocky sections of path. The path is best suited to walkers with experience of routes of this type. Enjoy the great Alpine atmosphere in the rifugio Sasso Piatto mountain hut at the end of the walk. You will meet other serious walkers, who rather than going straight down into the valley from the hut, prefer to continue on along the classic route around Sasso Piatto and Sasso Lungo, with views that are even more breathtaking.
- Tour recommendation: Selva di Val Gardena "Sella Ronda" mountain bike ride as an alternative to skiing (in clockwise direction)
Route: Selva – Passo Gardena – Corvara – Passo Incisa – Rifugio Pralongia (overnight stay) – Arábba – Portavescovo – Viel del Pan (‘Bindelweg’) – Pecol – Passo Sella - Selva
Distanceapprox. 60 kilometres and 3,000 metres of altitude
Journey time: 2 days
Alpine MTB tour. You should be physically fit and an experienced mountain biker
You will need to be in good physical condition to tackle the famous Sella Ronda on two wheels. You can take your mountain bike to descend the Sella group - on gravel paths, mule-tracks and occasional sections on foot. You should plan two days for this off-road tour, with its total distance of some 60 kilometres and 3,000 metres of altitude. A steep uphill stretch of rough gravel path takes you up to Pralongia. The high plateau above Corvara makes the effort worth it, with legendary 360-degree panoramic views over the gently undulating meadows on the precipitous Massive Sella, Puez, Sasso della Croce and Fanes. A great stage to aim for.
The high point of the Sella off-road tour comes on day two however: the Viel del Pan (Bindelweg) path. This ancient path, which was once used to transport grain and flour into the valley of Fassa, snakes along under the ridge of the mountain and various kilometres up to above Passo Pordoi. When the weather is good, this section can be quite crowded, but keen adventurers soon get to appreciate the breathtaking views of the permanent ice of Marmolada on the other side of the valley.
NORDIC
WALKING
Nordic Walking means the joy of life and the need to be among natural surroundings. Nordic Walking has at its basis a new and completely revolutionary, scientifically proven concept of movement. You step forward with special sticks that with each step swing alongside your body. This brings 90% of your muscles into play, the movement will take the strain from you, stored energy will gradually come into play. Val Gardena is the ideal place to practice this innovativ sport activity.
"Nordic Active Park" in Vallunga
The "DSV Nordic Activ Park" in Vallunga is born as an innovative concept of the German Skiing Association DSV. The Center is open all the year: in the winter for cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing and in the summer for nordic walking.
In Summer 2006 we open 3 routes with different difficulties. Walk in our natural park "Puez- Odle" surrounded from a wonderful scenery, a unique flora and sightseeing like the ruins of the Wolkenstein castle, the St. Sylvester’s Chapel and the Via Crucis.
